The DOK Leipzig and EWA Development Prize for the best female driven documentary in the DOK Co-Pro Market has been awarded to “Leftover Women“ by Shosh Shlam and Hilla Medalia! The project is a Israeli-German co-production of Shlam Productions, Medalia Productions und Neue Celluloid Fabrik.

The prize has been awarded for the first time this year and includes 1000 € along with a one year consultation from festival director Leena Pasanen and head of DOK Industry Brigid O’Shea.

Saxon Minister of Science and the Fine Arts, Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, acts as the patron for the prize.

The jury, comprised of two EWA and two DOK Leipzig members, explained their choice as follows: “’Leftover Women’ is a courageous project that gives voice to well educated women who are excluded from society because their personal desire goes beyond getting married and settled. The project, though dealing with the particular situation of young women in China, tackles the more universal issue of women who struggle to find their own path against social dictates.”
