Marina Razbezhkina is not only one of the most renowned filmmakers in Russia but also considered a highly influential film educator who teaches not only the craft but also the courage to go one’s own way. In 2008 she founded a film workshop in Moscow with Mikhail Ugarov, an extraordinary education project that attracted worldwide attention. Born in 1948, Razbezhkina found her way to film via studying literature at the University of her native city of Kazan as well as working as a village teacher and newspaper journalist. She wrote her first script in 1986 and made her debut as a director in 1989. Since then she has produced more than 30 multiple award-winning documentaries together with feature films. She has been a member of the European Film Academy since 2005.
