Annekatrin Hendel is a native of Berlin. After graduating in design she worked as a freelance costume and production designer. In 1989 she cofounded the Theatre 89 Berlin. She made her debut as a ﬁlmmaker with the short ﬁlm “Chiquita For Ever” in 1999. In 2004 she founded the IT WORKS! Medien GmbH ﬁlm production company and has since been active as a producer and director. Her ﬁrst production, “Zur Zeit verstorben” (Currently Dead) won numerous festival awards and was nominated for the German Short Film Prize 2004. In 2012, she received the Berlinale’s Made in Germany Perspective Fellowship for “Disko”. She has been a member of the German Film Academy since 2012.
