Animation Night Extended

Animation Night Extended This year, we will extend our long Animation Night and take our audience into the fascinating visual world of Vincent van Gogh.Filmstill Loving Vincent (Robert Gulaczyk), Copyright: 2017 Loving Vincent Sp.z.o.o.& Loving Vincent Ltd.

This year, we will extend our long Animation Night and take our audience into the fascinating visual world of Vincent van Gogh. First we will show the film Loving Vincent in public in Germany for the first time in a special screening prior to its cinema release. After the screening, producer Hugh Welchman will provide insights into the film’s complex production process, answer questions and show real paintings included in the film.

The feature-length animated film Loving Vincent is based on letters to Van Gogh’s brother and was created using over 65,000 individual oil paintings made in a style emulating the artist’s unique imagery. The story sheds new light on the dramatic circumstances of his life and sudden death from the standpoint of his friends and acquaintances. The film was produced by Gdansk-based BreakThru Films.

Producer Hugh Welchman will also talk about previous film projects, such as the puppet animation film Peter & the Wolf by Suzie Templeton, which was awarded an Oscar in 2008, and The Magic Piano, which was also Oscar-nominated in 2012.

Tickets are available online via our FilmFinder and from 27 October at our ticket offices.
