Official Selection 2017
We are happy to announce the Official Selection of our anniversary festival edition. 166 films and interactive works have made into our Official Selection of this year's DOK Leipzig. 113 of them will enjoy their world or international premieres – a record-breaking number for a second year running.
The festival is screening works by renowned filmmakers such as Shelly Silver, Stanislaw Mucha, Kamal Swaroop and David Sieveking, as well one by the famous theatre director Milo Rau. The actor Charly Hübner has also co-directed one of the films.
Overall, 53 countries are represented in the Official Selection. Many of the films were not only made by young directors but are also about young people. There are also films related to the Post-Angst theme in the Official Selection, exploring the subject of fear. Some of the works are about people with far-right views, about Pegida and Neo-Nazi marches for example. However, there are also films about the protests against xenophobia and racism.
This year's DOK Neuland has a new home, a former retail space in the town centre. Once again, our interactive exhibition invites the audience to check out 360° films, web documentaries or games. One transmedia project is part of the selection that complements Milo Rau's film.
Apart from the Official Selection, DOK Leipzig is also screening films in different Special Programmes. A total of 340 works will be shown during the festival.
