New programmer and new selection committee members
We are thrilled to announce that the curator, lecturer and film publicist Ralph Eue is taking over as programmer and head of the Selection Committee. In the past, he ran press relations at the Tobis Filmkunst distribution company and worked as an advisor for the Berlinale. He has been a curator and Selection Committee member at DOK Leipzig since 2007. Aside from his festival work, he also teaches film history and film theory at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie (DFFB). The selection committee will also be acquiring three new members this year: The filmmaker and media educator Leopold Grün ("Der Rote Elvis"), the curator and film educator Luc-Carolin Ziemann and another member yet to be confirmed will join André Eckardt, Zaza Rusadze and the new chair Ralph Eue to decide which films become part of DOK Leipzig's Official Selection.
Ralph Eue: "We want to pursue something that is key to DOK Leipzig, that is enabling audiences to feel tangibly that documentary and animated films really have the power to soak up and express present realities. The films that I envisage in the programme are ideally films with transformative power, that make a viewer into somebody different, films that absolutely had to be made and whose urgency comes across. For me, the traditions and attitudes associated with DOK Leipzig are precious. I am pleased that I will be co-responsible for developing the programme."
