Now and Then – Then and Now

To celebrate the 60th edition of DOK Leipzig we are – joyfully – breaking a few rules. We’re not waiting for the official opening of the anniversary edition but will start partying three days in advance. We leave our familiar venues and venture to move to UT Connewitz, the oldest surviving cinema in the city, to the Grassimuseum, which has housed a repertory cinema since 1989, and to the Institut fuer Zukunft (Institute for the Future) which has to prove itself as a cinema yet.
We celebrate key films from six decades of festival history: with revivals and salon conversations, where seasoned festival goers and new allies can meet. We invite everyone on time trips under the motto Now and Then – Then and Now which take us from the present day to the past and back – following themes, cinematographic languages and ideological changes of atmosphere that will not only bring out ruptures and continuities from 60 years of film, cultural and social history but form a comprehensive moving image of the history of DOK Leipzig.

Donations for "Kino der Jugend"
Instead of paying to see the films you are welcome to make a donation on the night. All money raised will go to Fortuna-Kino der Jugend e.V. in support of its efforts to restore the former "Kino der Jugend" (Young People's Cinema) in Leipzig's Eisenbahnstraße. We look forward to receiving your donations for this project!
