Regular visitors of animation film festivals will be familiar with the name Andrea Martignoni. He calls himself the official representative of the independent Italian animation artists and as such has frequently appeared on stage at award ceremonies for Blu's or Donato Sansone's films. Sometimes the awards went directly to him, namely when the sound design of the films was distinguished. Musician, performer, sound designer and expert for the history of animated film, that's how the Italian might best be described. In his studies at the University of Bologna and the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montreal he focused on the relationship between sound and image because sound plays a vital role in the effect and perception of a film, whether animated or documentary. If there is no location sound, the filmmaker will need a sound design which enhances the mood of the film and often affects audiences in very subtle ways.

In his Master Class, Andrea Martignoni will "tell all". He will offer fascinating inside looks at how he develops the sound design for a film and extends a narrative by means of sound and noises, illustrated by his co-operation with Blu, for whose international successes "Muto" and "Big Bang, Big Boom" (DOK Leipzig opening film 2010) he created the sound. Martignoni is also interested in how films evolve from an existing soundtrack, a subject on which he has conducted numerous workshops with the children of Ottomani Laboratori, with students in Bologna or at international festivals.
