Mlčeti zlato (All That Glitters) by Tomás Kudrna (Czech Republic)
Tomás Kudrna takes us with large and beautiful images as well as perfect people to a booming Canadian gold mining enterprise in the midst of the Kirghiz countryside, only to confront us with his ironic comments little by little but persistently to the company's shadier sides. Even the remaining Soviet-socialist folklore cannot hide the gap between the privileged miners and the completely impoverished rural population.
The people in the remote former Soviet republic have lost their orientation. Should capitalism not have been overcome a long time ago? But where do we live now? A great and sensuous film about this complicated topic in the era of globalisation.
