Irena Taskovski, born in Banja Luka, attended the Film and Television Department of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague, the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School, Jerusalem, and the National Film & Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield near London. After leaving university she worked for the London-based production company "Autonomous" and "Tartan Films Distribution" until she founded her own production company, Taskovski Films, in 2003. Credits include "René" (dir. by Helena Třeštíková), which won the Leipzig Golden Dove in 2008. In 2007 she founded the Banja Luka Film Institute and in 2008 the Banja Luka International Film Festival (BLIFF) whose artistic director she has been since then. Irena Takovski teaches at various institutions (incl. FAMU and NFTS) and has served on various international festival juries.
