Matthias Müller, born in Bielefeld in 1961, is a filmmaker, video and installation artist and photographer. He studied German Literature, Art and Education at the University of Bielefeld (1981-1987) as well as Free Art at the Braunschweig University of Art (master class of 1991). After teaching at Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main (1994-1997) and Dortmund University of Applied Science and Arts (1998-1999) he worked as a professor of Experimental Film at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne. Matthias Müller has received a number of distinguished awards, including the Prix Canal + du meilleur court-métrage in Cannes (in 2006 for "Kristall", Crystal, with Christoph Girardet). His works have been exhibited in important international museums, including the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Tate Modern. In addition to making his own films he organises film and tour programmes and festival.
