Rainer Komers, born in Guben in 1944, studied ﬁlm at the Düsseldorf Academy of the Arts. He has made ﬁlms in Alaska, Germany, India, Japan, Yemen, Latvia, and Montana; his ﬁlms are screened at festivals throughout the world. “Nome Road System” received the German Short Film Prize in 2004, “B 224” the Hessen Film Prize in 2001, “Zigeuner in Duisburg” (Gipsies in Duisburg) the German Film Critics’ Award in 1980. He also publishes poetry, articles and essays (in Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung a.o.) as well as travel reports about India, Japan and Yemen (Deutschlandfunk). In 2006 he received the Ruhr Prize for Arts and Sciences of the city of Mülheim.
