Cornelia Seitler grew up in Arbon near Lake Constance. After finishing secondary school she worked as a waitress and governess, studied German literature and psychology and freelanced as a production assistant. First short films followed, as well as various jobs in distribution, production and sales. Seitler continued her education with further training in production, screenwriting and dramaturgy before she co-founded the "maximage" production company with Brigitte Hofer in 1997. The company's films have won multiple international awards, including the Genie Award for Best Documentary for "Gambling, Gods and LSD" in 2013. Seitler has also served on various international juries and is a sought-after expert, for example as a member of the executive board of Swiss Films (2004–2007).
