Digital Entry Guide

Here you will find information on how to encode and transmit a digital entry video for preview purposes.

 

 

How does it work?


 

A digital preview copy of your film is required for the selection process of DOK Leipzig which has to be uploaded via FTP to our server. The login details of the DOK Leipzig FTP server have been sent to you via Email after completing the entry form.

 

Please note that you do need a browser plugin for using the FTP URL, such as filezilla or fireFTP for Windows or Cyberduck for Mac, otherwise the link transfer.dok-leipzig.de leads to our festival website.

 

Before uploading your video file please ZIP it, e.g. by using the free software e.g. 7zip for Windows. Mac users please use Keka or 7zX for zipping - other programs will create invalid files.
 

The approx. size of your zipped film file should not exceed 4GB.

The preferred codec is H.264.

 

Content Requirements


 

  • language: German or English OR German or English subtitles
  • render subtitles to video
  • progressive video (non interlaced)
  • max video resolution is 1080p30
  • use H.264 preferential
  • test your video file with free VideoLanClient VLC-Player

 

Naming the Movie File


 

When saving your video file, please give it a title in the following way: "2017_xxxx" (the xxxx ID number can be found in the DOK Leipzig e-mail with your FTP account. Complete the file naming with the proper file extension [.mov | .mpg | .mp4] You should create a file named like this: e.g. 2017_0001.mov

 

Encoding Requirements

 

You have to compress your video & audio with a valid codec and put it inside a file container we can read.

H.264 with Apple Quicktime .MOV container

usage: preferential export format direct from NLE as Quicktime movie

video typical: 8 - 20MBit/s

audio: 48KHz stereo or 5.1 - codec: PCM, AAC, AC3

MPEG4-AVC (H.264) with MP4 or MKV container

usage: providing video from dedicated encoding software

video typical: 8 - 20MBit/s

audio: 48KHz stereo or 5.1 - codec: PCM, AAC

 

 

Video Format Details


 

typical video resolutions:

1280x720 HD 720p

1920x1080 HD 1080p

typical frame rates: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 59.94, 60

Advice: Do not change your source frame rate to avoid audio sync problems and frame ghosting.
