About the Programme

Where can I see the films?

These are our partner cinemas in Leipzig, where we screen our festival film programme during the festival week from 25 to 31 October: CineStar Leipzig, Passage Kinos Leipzig, Regina Palast, Cinémathèque Leipzig in der naTo, Schaubühne Lindenfels and Schauburg Leipzig.

Additionally, we present selected highlights from the programme at the East hall in Leipzig’s main station and at the Polnisches Institut. Which film is screening at what time? Browse the calendar.

Afterwards, we will switch to the DOK Stream format to present selected festival films on Demand throughout Germany for two weeks, from 1 to 14 November. The DOK Stream will be available directly on our website. Find out which films you can watch on demand in our DOK Stream Programme.

DOK Stream – what is it and where can I see it?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to make part of our programme available online this year. We would like to offer our audience the possibility to participate in our festival, even if not everyone can travel to Leipzig.

During the first two weeks of November (1 – 14/11), we will present more than 70 documentary and animated films – mostly from our competitions – as Video on Demand. Find the full DOK Stream programme overview here.

You can easily watch the films in the DOK Stream from 1 November directly on our website. You’ll find the embedded video player on the respective film page. Payment takes place in the browser via the embedded player. There's no registration or extra sign-in necessary.

All films in the DOK Stream are available in Germany only until 14 November.

I need wheelchair access. How does it work?

Although we are dependent on the infrastructure of the festival's different venues, we do our best to provide barrier-free access. Most of the festival venues have wheelchair access. You can find all details about the locations’ accessibility here.

I’m accredited, how can I get tickets for the film programme?

With an accreditation you have free access to our cinema screenings in general, but need to order free single tickets for each screening in advance. We reserve a quota of tickets for our accredited guests.

If you are logged into your myDOK account you can book your tickets in our Programme. Once you selected your films and proceeded to the shopping basket (ticket-icon on top of the screen) you can apply a “accreditation” discount to your tickets. Your tickets should then be reduced to a price of 0 €. After proceeding through the checkout, your tickets are booked for good. Note: In the shopping basket you might have to press the “Update Cart” button to apply the discount.

You can only book 5 screenings at a time with your accreditation. Parallel screenings are prohibited.

Please read more about how to obtain your free tickets for the cinema screenings in our FAQ for accredited guests.

With an accreditation, you can also watch selected films of this year's festival edition – including the competitions – online via our partner Pantaflix from 25/10 to 14/11/21. You will get access directly through the respective film page in our Programme, where you will find the video player embedded if the film is available to watch online. Please note that you need to be logged into your myDOK account to see the video player and to start the film. If there is no video player embedded on a film page, this film is not available to watch online.

Covid-19 Protection Measures and Hygiene Rules

What are the hygiene rules in the festival cinemas?

At all public events during the festival, the “3G” regulation for protection against COVID-19 will apply. Patrons aged 12 and over will need to show proof that they have been vaccinated or have recovered from the disease. Alternatively, admission will be possible with a negative test taken the same day at an official testing centre (no self-testing). Exceptions are the opening event at CineStar and the screenings at the Polnisches Institut, to which only vaccinated and recovered persons will be allowed entry.

To be well prepared, please bring either of these documents to the venue: Proof of recovery, proof of vaccination or proof of a negative covid-test. Plus a valid ID. Be aware that checking these documents takes additional time, so please plan ahead! You may be barred from entry if you cannot provide the relevant documents.

Additionally, we are advised to keep records of our guests in any given venue, so you might be asked to provide your name and address at the entrance of each location. We send out forms with each online ticket and you can also get forms at the venues. If you have, bring the German “Covid-Warn-App” on your smartphone and you can register yourself with our provided QR code, how convenient!

A nose and mouth covering must be worn at all venues prior to taking one’s seat.

Do these rules also apply to the main station?

At all public events during the festival, including the screenings at the main station, the “3G” regulation for protection against COVID-19 will apply. Access to the event area is also only possible after submitting a contact form and masks that cover the nose and mouth are compulsory during the film screenings. These forms will be issued 45 minutes before the start of the event. Please also note the instructions on site. If you have any questions, our team will be happy to assist you there.

What are the rules I need to consider if I want to visit the DOK Neuland exhibition?

In the DOK Neuland exhibition, the pandemic protection measures set by the Museum of Fine Arts (Mdbk Leipzig) apply, as well as the standard mask and physical distance requirements. We developed the exhibition so that the minimum distance between the individual visitors can be maintained. The equipment is disinfected after each use by our DOK Neuland team. During opening hours, staff will be on site to explain how to correctly use the equipment.

Is it acceptable for people from risk groups to take part in the cinema screenings?

Unfortunately, we cannot make this decision for you. You’ll have to determine whether you feel comfortable. In case of doubt, buying a ticket for the DOK Stream is a good alternative.
