Sergei Loznitsa and 20 years “La Lucarne”
ARTE’s late-night documentary screen La Lucarne is 20 years old! To celebrate the anniversary, ARTE and DOK Leipzig will be presenting a Masterclass called Directing the Archive by the award-winning filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa.
Loznitsa’s films have often been broadcast in La Lucarne. The director’s relationship with DOK Leipzig also goes back a long way: He received a Golden Dove for his first documentary in 1996 and again last year for Austerlitz.
Loznitsa will give an insight into his working methods, from the idea to implementation, and will talk about using archive material, the boundaries between documentary and fiction and the power of montage. He will use extracts from earlier films Blockade, Revue und The Event as well as from his current project The Trial.
Entrance to the Directing the Archive Masterclass on 31 October at 4pm in the Polish Institute Leipzig is free.
From 13 November, ARTE will celebrate 20 years of La Lucarne over three Monday nights, by broadcasting five TV premieres and four La Lucarne classics.
