Ruth Beckermann at DOK Leipzig
At this year’s festival edition, the work of Austrian filmmaker Ruth Beckermann will be featured in several ways. Beckermann, who is regarded as a co-founder of the independent film scene in Austria, will be honoured with an homage, and she will also give insights into her filmmaking in a masterclass. In addition, she will be one of the jurors deciding about the winners in the Next Masters Competitions.
The homage DOCUMENT/DEMONSTRATE presents an overwiew of Beckermann’s artistically varied oeuvre: With a critical eye and yet ready to enter into a poetic spirit, she has grown into one of the great historiographers of Austria. Her cinematographical styles cover an astonishing range. At DOK Leipzig, the audience can not only discover her well-known works such as The Waldheim Waltz, which received the Documentary Award at the 2018 Berlinale and is now Austria’s candidate for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, or her fiction film The Dreamed Ones. The homage also turns attention to her early films, in which she already connected the personal and the political.
The Special Programme will be accompanied by a Masterclass on Friday, 2 November at Kupfersaal Leipzig, moderated by the curators Ralph Eue and Patrick Holzapfel.
In addition, you can enjoy one further work of Ruth Beckermann at the 61st edition of DOK Leipzig: She has created our festival trailer, which will be on screen at CineStar Leipzig starting this week.
