A milestone of international documentary film. Writer Maya Turovskaya and director Mikhail Romm ask how that Hitler business could come about in Germany. What made the film suspect in the eyes of the Soviet censors was the creators’ line of argument, which also invited uncomfortable generalizations. “The Usual Fascism” was awarded the Special Jury Prize in Leipzig in 1965.
