DOK Leipzig is happy to announce a new cooperation with the European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA). Through this partnership the festival continues its engagement, led by Leena Pasanen, to empower women in the film industry. DOK Leipzig and the EWA share a common goal of promoting gender equality in the audiovisual sector, across various cultural and ethnic affiliations. EWA members have access to many benefits, such as a discount on the accreditation fees, or access to exclusive DOK Industry events during the week of the festival.
In February, the EWA undertook an unprecedented comprehensive study into the conditions of female directors in seven European countries. The study demonstrates that just 1 in 5 films in Europe have a female director. 84% of public funding was allocated to projects with a male director – even though just as many women as men graduate from film schools. The EWA summarises the situation for female directors as: "The talent exists. Yet women's creative potential and perspective is not reaching Europe's audiences."
The EWA offers regular training programs. Currently, filmmakers can submit applications to the Multiple Revenue Training Scheme. More information is available here.
