On location: Our plans for the 65th DOK Leipzig Festival

Whether it’s watching, discussing or celebrating films together — the shared festival experience is what DOK Leipzig is all about for us. The festival will be on-site once again this year, and we look forward to welcoming you to Leipzig cinemas and venues from 17 to 23 October. “DOK Stream” will also still be available online, where viewers can access our selected film highlights on demand throughout Germany after the festival.

Our DOK Industry offerings for film professionals will also take place mainly in Leipzig. Selected project presentations and talks will still be available online via livestreams. For all film professionals who cannot attend the festival onsite, there will be two days of online networking events following the festival week.

Our poster design 2022

A “key visual” in the truest sense of the word: we are pleased to present our poster design for this year! Some of you may recognise this good old key from GDR times.

“We deliberately allowed for many interpretations with our design,” says Christoph Terhechte. “The films and works in our programme are united by their curiosity about the world. They open up new perspectives and previously unknown worlds, so to speak. But the key is also always a symbol of home — people who have to leave their homes often keep their apartment key as a symbol of connection to their home, their origins and past. As a festival with an East German history, we opted for a key style from the German Democratic Republic.”

By the way: you can discover even more key variations everywhere in the festival.

Announcing first programme themes

Here’s an early insight into our festival themes: With the Retrospective, we will shine a spotlight on the documentary works by female filmmakers from the GDR, the Homage is dedicated to the renowned Serbian documentary filmmaker Mila Turajlić and a film series of current feature-length films will offer insights into life in Eastern European countries. Two programmes will feature films that address the climate crisis, resource scarcity and environmental activism. And we will explore the different artistic styles of animated film with four film programmes.
