Nobody’s too young for great cinema! At Kids DOK, we gather films for everyone from the age 3, 5 and 8 who is in the mood for funny and thought-provoking viewing experiences. The Young Eyes films are a perfect match for all over 12 and are nominated for the Young Eyes Award.

Über Kids DOK

Während der Festivalwoche zeigen wir bei Kids DOK fantasievolle, nachdenkliche und lustige Geschichten über Tennis spielende Dinos, Sockenfreundschaften, Kung Fu und den Versuch, unseren Planeten zu retten. Manche davon sind mit Stiften und Pinseln gezeichnet, andere folgenden jungen Held*innen in ihre realen Lebenswelten.

Es gibt in diesem Jahr fünf Filmprogramme für fünf Altersgruppen: ab 4, 6, 8, 12 und 14 Jahren.

Für Kindergarten- und Vorschulkinder bieten wir zwei altersgerecht zusammengestellte Filmprogramme mit einem Mix aus kurzen Dokumentar- und Animationsfilmen. Für Kids, die schon zur Schule gehen, zeigen wir Filme, in denen Kinder und Jugendliche aus anderen Teilen der Erde ihre Geschichten erzählen.

Sind internationale Filme dabei, kommen sie entweder ganz ohne Sprache aus oder sie haben deutsche Untertitel bzw. werden deutsch eingesprochen.

About Young DOK

With Kids DOK and Young Eyes, we present German and international film productions whose narratives and artistic language take children and young people seriously. In age-appropriate curated programmes, the two branches of the festival come together to win a young audience over to the wealth and variety of cinema: to the witty ingeniousness of animation and the boundless, all-encompassing curiosity of the documentary. 

Kids DOK comprises film for fans aged 3+, 5+ and 8+ in programmes full of short, animated fantasy stories and relatable everyday situations. Under the Young Eyes label, teenagers aged 12 to 16 can look forward to four feature-length documentaries that illustrate the diverse conditions in which other kids their age live. A jury of people aged 12 to 16 form the Young Eyes Jury and presents the Young Eyes Film Award sponsored by the Rahn Dittrich Group for Education and Culture.

Ticket sales begin on 8 October, but daycare and after-school groups can register with us now at kids [at] dok-leipzig [dot] de (kids[at]dok-leipzig[dot]de).

Films for all 3+

Curtains up for the youngest film fans! We have packed a mix of imaginative and diverse animation films for them. The line-up includes a dancing caterpillar, glittering snowflakes, the invisible Alfie Atkins, a naughty penguin, a cloudfish and mice on a big trek.

Films for all 5+

“Happiness is the only thing that multiplies when you share it”, Albert Schweitzer is said to have remarked once. This is precisely what the five animation films and one documentary in this pre-school programme are about. Whether racing along on a bike, well-hidden in the jungle, in Brazil or searching for the last autumn leaf: Everything is simply more fun together.

Films for all 8+

In this programme for primary school kids, three animated and three documentary films tell tales of courage, overcoming yourself and unusual friendships. Szymon and Franek meet at the skate park, Jools learns to dance despite her disability, two siblings stick together, we peek behind prison gates twice, and Paul copes with the grief of losing his dog by drawing comics.

Young Eyes Films for all 12+

Students aged 12+ can expect four phenomenal films under the category of Young Eyes. This is where we show films told from
the perspective of their young protagonists. At the end of the festival, our Youth Jury will choose the winner of this year’s Young Eyes Film Award from among four feature-length documentary films.
