About Young DOK

With Kids DOK and Young Eyes, we present German and international film productions whose narratives and artistic language take children and young people seriously. In age-appropriate curated programmes, the two branches of the festival come together to win a young audience over to the wealth and variety of cinema: to the witty ingeniousness of animation and the boundless, all-encompassing curiosity of the documentary.

Kids DOK comprises film for fans aged 3+ and 5+, while teens aged 12+ can expect four phenomenal films under the category of Young Eyes. A jury of young people aged 12 to 16 form the Young Eyes Jury and award a prize to one of the four films.

Ticket sales begin on 9 October, but daycare and after-school groups can register with us now at kids [at] dok-leipzig [dot] de (kids[at]dok-leipzig[dot]de).

Film Programme for Kids

Films for all 3+

Our youngest film fans aged 3 and up can enjoy animated fables and relatable everyday stories: about cheeky rats, grumpy badgers, tidying-up car races, and a judoka who refuses to let leukemia knock him down.

Films for all 5+

At Kids DOK 5+, we meet, among others, a capybara family, dragons, and a girl bark beetle; we go along on a holiday that goes all wrong and catch a glimpse of worlds of play that emerge when no adults are around.

Film Programmes for Young Eyes

Young Eyes Films for all 12+

Students aged 12+ can expect four phenomenal films under the category of Young Eyes. These films approach big questions with conviction, intelligence, and humor – sometimes even with glitter. How great is Fanta’s dream of touring with a famous acrobatic circus? What does it mean to grow up as a person of color in Austria? What‘s the mystery behind the drawing Mary’s father leaves her? And in what way does Karla want to talk about her identity and her transition?
