3000 films for DOK Leipzig
Around 3,000 films have been viewed by the Selection Committee for this year’s festival. From 26 October until 1 November roughly 150 films will make it into the Official Selection and a tentative total of about 200 more films will be able to be seen in diverse Special Programmes at DOK Leipzig.
Some 2,600 productions from 119 countries were officially submitted. The strongest representation comes from major documentary film countries such as France, Great Britain and the USA. But also films from Mali, Mauritania or Kyrgyzstan hope to reach the Official Selection at DOK Leipzig.
With a bit more than 2,000 productions submitted, documentary film is the genre most strongly represented among the entries. Besides them, 400 animated films and close to 100 animated documentary films were submitted to DOK Leipzig.
For the first time, about 60 interactive works such as web documentaries, apps or virtual reality games are equally among the entries. DOK Leipzig wants to promote digitally based storytelling and is going to give these projects a special place apart from the competition.
On 6. October the Official Selection will be announced. Stay tuned to learn which films will flicker across DOK Leipzig’s silver screens this year.
