After an autumn stroll, settle in at the cinema to enjoy documentary and animated films, delight in charming stories, and immerse yourself in the worlds of children and young people – all this awaits you during festival week in our Young DOK section.
Young DOK brings together the Kids DOK programmes for the youngest film fans and Young Eyes, which features films for teenagers.
For children aged 3 and up, Kids DOK presents short film reels with animated fables and relatable everyday stories: about cheeky rats, grumpy badgers, tidying-up car races, and a judoka who refuses to let leukemia knock him down.
At Kids DOK 5+, we meet, among others, a capybara family, dragons, and a girl bark beetle; we go along on a holiday that goes all wrong and catch a glimpse of worlds of play that emerge when no adults are around.
For cinema fans aged 12 and older, Young Eyes presents four feature-length films that approach big questions with conviction, intelligence, and humor – sometimes even with glitter. How great is Fanta’s dream of touring with a famous acrobatic circus? What does it mean to grow up as a person of color in Austria? What‘s the mystery behind the drawing Mary’s father leaves her? And in what way does Karla want to talk about her identity and her transition?
One of these films will receive a special honor: the Young Eyes Film Award, presented by the Rahn Dittrich Group for Education and Culture.
Tickets for Young DOK will be available from 9 October. However, daycare groups can already register now – find out how here.
The films are either without dialogue, are subtitled in German or are given a German voiceover. Tickets for individual Young DOK screenings cost €5. All information on the accessibility of our cinemas – whether with stroller or wheelchair – can be found here from 9 October.
DOK Education: Inspiring Opportunities for Teachers and Students
For many years, DOK Leipzig has offered pupils and teachers the chance to explore documentary film as a cinematic form of expression. The DOK Education programme includes school screenings during the festival, our Teachers Day workshop for teachers, the DOK Spotters youth editorial team, and the Youth Jury, which awards the Young Eyes Film Award.
Registration for Teachers Day and for the school screenings is now open. Young people aged 12 to 16 can still apply for the DOK Spotters until 19 September.
