About “Spielerinnen”

“If others don’t accept that we are Germans, how are we supposed to accept that?” asks the daughter of Türkan, a former player for the Turkish-German football club Ağrı Spor in Berlin-Kreuzberg. 30 years before, director Aysun Bademsoy has portrayed Türkan and her teammates in a documentary film. Now, she is focussing on the next generation and talks to their daughters, some of whom on the brink of adulthood.

Although they were born and raised in Germany, the young women ask themselves the question: do they really feel accepted here? It seems as if a cultural rift still defines their lives. Referring back to the 1990s, their mothers reminisce about a youth in which the game of football provided a space for their emancipation. The daughters’ world today lies between Instagram, self-discovery and family responsibility.

German Diversity Day

The nationwide day of action was initiated by the Charta der Vielfalt e. V. and is dedicated to topics relating to social diversity. Since 2023, we have been showing films on this day that deal with different dimensions of diversity.

The film will be shown in German and Turkish with closed captioning in German.

When: 27 May 2025, 21:30
Where: Conne Island, Koburger Str. 3, 04227 Leipzig
Tickets: €7.00 | €5.50 (reduced) via Cinémathèque Leipzig

We look forward to seeing you there!
