DOK Stream 2025

During the festival week, selected films will be available for online viewing throughout Germany via the website’s DOK Stream function. Each day from 28 October all through 2 November 2025, a new feature film or a short film reel will be accessible for 24 hours, from midnight to midnight.

On Tuesday, 28 October, those who can’t make it to Leipzig for the world premiere of Patience Nitumwesiga’s “The Woman Who Poked the Leopard” will be able to watch it online. Debuting in the German Competition Documentary Film, the film delivers an unsparing portrait of Ugandan poet, feminist, and gender researcher Stella Nyanzi who scorns decades-long autocrat Yoweri Museveni and runs for Parliament.

On Wednesday, 29 October, watch “Take the Money and Run” by Ole Juncker, presented in the Audience Competition. At its centre is Danish conceptual artist Jens Haaning who endeavours to change the rules of the art world, having borrowed 74,000 euros from the museum only to deliver two empty frames with blank canvases, proclaiming them a work of art. The film follows the events that ensue, evolving into an intriguing probe of artistic intent and contractual duty.

“A Simple Soldier”, co-helmed by Artem Ryzhykov and Juan Camilo Cruz and screening in the Panorama: Central and Eastern Europe programme, will be available for online viewing on Thursday, 30 October. Culled from over one thousand hours of material, the documentary offers a poignant look into the war’s hidden wounds and trauma through the lens of filmmaker Ryzhykov who fights alongside the Ukrainian army amid Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Giovanni Columbu’s animation debut “Balentes”, presented in DOK Leipzig’s International Competition Animated Film, can be viewed online on Friday, 31 October. Set in Sardinia on the eve of World War II, it portrays a duo of boys who attempt to salvage a herd of horses slated for deployment in the fascist military in a daring nocturnal operation.

A mix of six animated and documentary short films will be available via DOK Stream on Saturday, 1 November (the full package can be accessed with one ticket): “Bar Croquette Freestyle”, “Four Percent”, “How a River is Born”, “Passageways”, “Unyagoni: Bahatiʼs Sex Education Journey”, and “Have Fun in Venice!”.

On Saturday, 2 November, viewers can catch Srđan Kovačević’s “The Thing to Be Done”, which will celebrate its world premiere in the International Competition Documentary Film. This powerful, socio-politically charged work focuses on an office of workers’ rights in Slovenia that advocates for foreigners systematically cheated and exploited by companies in Slovenia.

The DOK Stream titles, all fresh out of the cinema, will be available on their respective days from 00:01 to 23:59. Viewers can find them in VOD format via an embedded player directly on their film pages at dok-leipzig.de.

Each film may be accessed for 5 €. There is no advance sale for DOK Stream. Online tickets can be purchased directly via DOK Stream as soon as the respective film or short film programme becomes available there.
