An animated short documentary about Alicja and Bożena Wahl – identical twin sisters
and visual artists. The film is based on excerpts selected from over 450 diaries kept by Alicja for nearly 50 years and the artistic work of both sisters.

It is a story about sisterhood, shared creation, and a bond that shaped their private
and artistic lives. Alicja’s diaries, an intimate and unending dialogue with Bożena, open a window into the sisters’ world – one filled with closeness as well as tension.

The film combines a documentary perspective with animation, incorporating archival photographs, recordings, and the artists’ works alongside collage, digital drawing and ink painting techniques. The literary power and emotional depth of the diaries are underscored by the interpretation of Magdalena Cielecka, the Polish actress, whose voice-over brings out their subtlety, tensions and the inner rhythm of this extraordinary relationship.

In Memory Of centres Mohamed Imrani, a painter born and raised in Gaza, now living in Paris for the past four years. As a way to counter the helplessness brought on by the destruction of his homeland, he begins sketching the streets and buildings of Gaza that carry personal meaning for him.

As he draws with pencil, he quietly recounts the memories tied to these places: the bar where he had his first date with his girlfriend, the street he walked to school every day. Through these personal stories, storytelling itself becomes a form of resistance, suggesting that by preserving these places in drawings and stories, they cannot be erased.

The film also reflects on the value of direct memory in an increasingly digital world. As we rely more and more on photos and videos to preserve our lives, our sensory memory begins to fade: how things tasted, smelled, or looked. Through the tactile and almost meditative act of drawing on paper, memory becomes something internal again. We hold on without relying on anything beyond ourselves. You close your eyes, and your world is there, no matter what.

Letters from the Silenced Country is a portrait of contemporary Belarus told through stories of individuals who have endured imprisonment, repression, and exile – voices silenced by an autocratic regime.

Each story reveals a distinct experience of repression. A father hides from surveillance to avoid arrest and separation from his daughter. A former criminal investigator chooses to leave the system, flees Belarus, and, in exile in Poland, faces repeated interrogations and a growing sense of deadlock and powerlessness. Kasia, a young student sentenced for protesting, survives through drawing, using her art to preserve a sense of self and to express what cannot be openly said. We also meet 50-year-old Vitold, whose story unfolds through photographs sent by a friend from home – carefully selected fragments of a world beyond the prison walls, offering him moments of freedom while exploring not only what can be seen, but also what remains unseen.

Combining observational footage, archival and found materials, testimonies, and animation based on drawings created in confinement, the film transforms private correspondence into a cinematic space of intimacy, dignity, and reflection, raising questions about sacrifice, solidarity, and the human cost of resistance in a silenced country.
