For the past 18 years, DOK Leipzig has been closely following developments in animated documentary filmmaking. The festival has been presenting innovative ideas and projects in this area every year in order to make professionals, as well as the audience, aware of the great potential that lies in the combination of different techniques and genres. This year’s panel on naimadoc presents case studies of different outstanding projects: Signe Baumane’s Film "Rocks in my Pockets“ is a very personal film about depression in her family from which mainly female relatives suffered, probably due to repression.
This independent production was partly financed by crowdfunding. The field of cross media offers a lot of potential, also to animated documentaries. The projects surprise because of their high aesthetic quality and innovative use of animation. "Cuentos de Viejos“ is the example of an outstanding animated factual TV series: Each episode has a different design which beautifully reflects the diverse stories, protagonists and places. In addition, the feature film “Last Hijack” will also be discussed as part of a larger cross media project.
This session will be held in English.
Accredited guests welcome.
