L.A. Confidence - Latin American Documentary today DOK Summit

Saturday 3 November 2012, 11:00 - 13:00 h
Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig

Today’s Latin American documentary cinema is young, creative and above all confident. Unbound by the constraints of the dictatorial systems, a new, talented generation of filmmakers has emerged, giving a sense that something exciting is happening as they create new media structures at home and build networks abroad. With a creative and very individual cinematic approach, the filmmakers grapple with political and social issues while also offering a personal glimpse of their families and the times and societies in which they live.

What is the vision of the documentary in the Latin American countries and in what direction is the media market developing? How are the conditions for production and distribution changing and what role do the local public television broadcasters play? What makes the new generation of filmmakers different and what subjects do they deal with? This year’s special program on Latin America featured contemporary documentary and animated films from 10 Latin American countries.
