Seven DOK Leipzig Films nominated for Emile Awards and German Short Film Award

Seven DOK Leipzig Films nominated for Emile Awards and German Short Film Award Five of our DOK Leipzig 2018 animated films are now nominated for the European Animation Awards Emile, two of the films from the section short film are nominated for the German Short Film Prize.

Five of our DOK Leipzig 2018 animated films are now nominated for the European Animation Awards Emile. One of them is the animated film Chris the Swiss by Anja Kofmel that has been screened at Leipzig Main Station on Saturday during the festival week. The film is nominated in four categories:
Best writing
Best background & character design
Best sound design
Best soundtrack


The Breadwinner directed by Nora Twomey and produced by the successful Irish Animation Studio Cartoon Saloon and presented by Head of Animation Fabian Erlinghäuser at our Animation Night Extended 2018, is also nominated in four categories:
Best direction
Best storyboard
Best character animation
Best background & character design


Nominated as best directed animated short film is Fest by Nikita Diakur and the film Egg by Martina Scarpelli which also won a Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig 2018. The Fruits of Clouds by Kateřina Karhánková, screened in this year’s KIDS DOK programme, is nominated for an Emile Award best background & character design.


For the second consecutive time, the European Animation Awards are presented in 18 different categories. Every European professional in the animation industry can become a member of the association, watch the nominated films online and vote for them. The award winners will be announced on 8 December, 2018.


And there is yet another reason to be happy: two films of this year’s festival edition are nominated for the German Short Film PrizeCops and Robbers by Florian Maulbach (Best Animated Film) and Call of Comfort by Brenda Lien (Best Experimental Film). The winners will be announced on 28 November by Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Prof. Monika Grütters.
