Become immersed in DOK Neuland 2018
In the scope of DOK Neuland we will be presenting current trends in the field of interactive audio-visual artwork for the fourth consecutive year at DOK Leipzig 2018. The exhibition demonstrates the full potential of the virtual realm and enables viewers to slip into fully realised, immersive narrative worlds.
After the exhibition took up quarters in a former shop in the middle of the city centre last year, DOK Neuland is set to grow even more: Featuring 12 works this year, it will be transforming a new two-story 400m² space situated conveniently at Nikolaistraße 23 in Leipzig downtown into a virtual reality world resembling a dystopic office landscape. From 30 October to 3 November, the exhibition is open daily from 12:00 to 20:00, admission is free.
This year’s programme includes five room-scale works, six 360° films and a smartfilm. The viewer is no mere spectator on the sidelines here: all of the featured works place him or her right in the middle of the action. “The term room-scale refers to a VR experience situated in a room the user can walk through virtually and interact with”, states DOK Neuland coordinator Lars Rummel. The combination of moving around in a virtual environment and wearing the VR headset manages to create a very special experience. DOK Neuland is also approaching the festival motto Demand the Impossible! in a playful way and highlighting a whole range of different aspects that are generally involved in acts of protest and rebellion.
In addition, in co-operation with DREFABRIK, DOK Neuland presents an award for one exceptional project from the exhibition. The award includes a cash prize of 1,000 euros, sponsored by DREFABRIK.
