The European Film Academy (EFA) has announced the nominations for the European Film Awards 2017. Three films from the last two festival editions are among the nominees.

A total of five documentary films were nominated in the category “European documentary”, among them two films that have been part of our 2016 festival programme:

Austerlitz by Sergei Loznitsa
Golden Dove International Competition / DOK Leipzig 2016

Communion (Komunia) by Anna Zamecka
Young Eyes Film Award / DOK Leipzig 2016

In addition, one film from the 2017 festival edition has been nominated for one of the European Film Awards, but in another category: Loving Vincent by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman is one of the candidates for the European Animated Feature Film Award. Loving Vincent was created using over 65,000 individual oil paintings. The film celebrated its German premiere in the frame of the Animation Night at DOK Leipzig.

The winning films will be announced at an official award ceremony on 9 December 2017 in Berlin. We wish all three films every success!
