The 2019 DOK Leipzig Festival Has Begun
And we’re off! With the screening of THE FORUM, the 62nd edition of DOK Leipzig opened on 28 October in a ceremony attended by some 700 guests. Director Marcus Vetter, the gebrueder beetz Filmproduktion team, and one of the film's protagonists, leading board member at the World Economic Forum Murat Sönmez, all appeared on stage to represent the work together at the Leipzig CineStar.
THE FORUM also ran simultaneously for the Leipzig audience in the Osthalle of the city’s main railway station. The public screening was attended by several hundred film fans, who were all welcomed by the film team before the showing began.
Festival Director Leena Pasanen led the opening ceremony at the CineStar, joined by Saxon State Minister for Science and the Arts, Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, and Dr. Skadi Jennicke, Leipzig’s mayor and cultural alderman.
The first award of the festival was also presented during the opening ceremony. Dr. Stange presented the Development Prize for the Best Female Director by the Saxon State Minister for the Arts to director Godisamang Khunou for the South African project BLACK WOMEN AND SEX (read more here).
