This new Brazilian animation is both daring and impressive. Daring because it is an attempt to bring together 600 years of Brazilian history. Impressive because it does so in a thrilling love story for adults and tells its tale in breathtaking images. The Tupinambá warrior Abeguar travels through time, fighting the Portuguese colonialists, launching himself into the slave revolts of the 19th century, and taking part in the resistance against the military regime of the 1970s. The immortal hero’s great love for his (mortal) wife Janaína links the episodes and transports both to a fictitious future in 2096, where Abeguar must once more fight against sinister powers and for his love.
