Like a dream in the morning mist, a mighty ox emerges from the rain-soaked earth dragging the remnants of an old cart. A prisoner of its yoke, the great beast pulls its heavy load, carrying with it a greedy and angry nation of people. An allegory of mankind heading for disaster, the film is a tragic vision inspired by the fourth movement of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

In Quebec during the early 1930s, poet Félix Leclerc befriended Frank Randolph Macpherson, a Jamaican-born chemical engineer. An inveterate jazz fan, he inspired Leclerc to write a song about the log drives; the poet entitled it МacPhersonin honour of his friend. Somewhere between documentary and fiction, the film, based on the famous song, depicts turning points in Canadian history as well as the friend's deep bonds.

For the grocer's son, Paula is like a mother or a big sister. She is always there, waiting for clients in front of the shop window. But one day a dramatic incidence teaches the boy a life lesson. Inspired by a news item the film paints a pulsating portrait of a mixeduse, working-class neighbourhood where young families cross paths with prostitutes.
