A Girl Named Elastika Guillaume Blanchet

Elastika is not like any other girl, because she is made of elastics. And because her universe is made of cork. Her journey is also one of a kind, as she jumps from one building to another, crosses an ocean, or travels to space by holding on to a firework rocket.

Like a dream in the morning mist, a mighty ox emerges from the rain-soaked earth dragging the remnants of an old cart. A prisoner of its yoke, the great beast pulls its heavy load, carrying with it a greedy and angry nation of people. An allegory of mankind heading for disaster, the film is a tragic vision inspired by the fourth movement of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

“Gloria Victoria” unfolds on the still-smouldering rubble of a furious 20th century. Resembling a military march with bolero overtones, the music sweeps over imagery of combat fronts and massacres, leading us from Dresden to Guernica, from the Spanish Civil War to “Star Wars”. It is at once a symphony that serves the war machine, that stirs the masses, and art that mourns the dead, voices its outrage and calls for peace.

Somewhere between documentary and fiction, the film, based on the famous song, depicts turning points in Canadian history as well as the friend's deep bonds.
