Everything seems tidy at first in Randa Maroufi’s performative reconstruction. Prettily sorted cars queue up, market women tie up their baggage, security officers do press-ups. On the monotonous grey background the scenes appear schematic, like a blueprint where suddenly everything is graphically condensed, though, with the otherwise observant camera drifting disorientedly in the middle. Everyday life at the border between the Spanish exclave of Ceuta and Morocco, which is crossed illegally by all kinds of goods.

A corpulent hotel guest is consumed with longing for his former love, Suzanne. And with hunger. Searching for food in a strange city he has communication problems and instead of a meal only gets new shoes – far too tight and life-threatening. The whole situation sparks up. Izabela Plucińska uses clay to transform a short story by Roland Topor into a bizarre animation film that is sensual, but sometimes physical in an unpleasant and delicious way.

Ever since a young woman discovered that her boyfriend cheated on her, she has come across his lovers everywhere, finding clues like hair and photos online – and collecting them. A regular map of femininity emerges, which she studies like the discoverer of a new world. Curiosity intermingles with grief and shock. The painful betrayal makes her take new paths, too, where she meets not only herself but perhaps all women.
