Student body elections at a Warsaw primary school. The fourth to six graders Marcel, Kais, Helena and Filip imitate the adults in everything: gathering supporters, inventing slogans and baiting the electorate with big promises that can’t be too absurd. Or will the candidate who distributes more candy than the others be elected? What looked like a game at first becomes deadly serious when the children’s families step in and we realise: it’s a do or die situation. There are many laughs in this film, even while the losers’ tears are flowing. The whole thing is as thrilling as a suspense novel, but the end leaves more than a couple of question marks: does democracy work like this?
