An exhilarated guitar stumbles. The glow of the evening throws off its romantic disguise and reveals itself as the face of a hellish conflagration in California, covering hilltops and residential areas. Its brutal beauty turns the events into a cosmic and unreal incident. Using time-lapse, granular editing and drone sounds, Jeff Frost paints a world that is out of joint and makes it tangible in his impressive composition.

A face is being drawn with a pencil. The countenance of a woman emerges. Old and suddenly a girl again. In her bedroom the film of her life unfolds by key moments. Changes are made visible by the eraser and new drawings. The girl becomes a woman, a lover brings a storm of mystical and fantastical elements. The arrival of the child opens new dimensions not only in the room. The child scrutinises the world and looks right into our eyes.

An ocean of whispering voices … In an alien landscape a female alchemist creates a good soul and beautiful idea, playing with the rules of nature – and losing her creation to the latter. Using the same alchemy, Stacey Steers mixes 19th century graphic reproductions, silent film scenes and loans from gothic novels to create an aesthetically stunning science fiction nightmare and a touching story about withheld love.

Day after day the sun shimmers over the harbour and the cafés – the eternal Croatian summer as a drawn diary. Dynamics are created by the repetitive use of original sounds and the increasing reduction of the animated drawings: sketches turn into graphical abstractions, objects into blotches of colour, free forms into geometrical ones. And a summer that is more than the sum of its parts slowly takes shape in the viewer’s head.

Nowadays, wanting to have children is tricky. Do I want children? And if so, when? Reproductive medicine even allows us to choose the “right” time. Have a career first and postpone the decision, thanks to social freezing? Three women over thirty ponder the female body and find warm words for their uterus, accompanied by Flamenco music – the pulse of life.

When Bill Babbitt realizes his brother has committed a crime he agonizes over his decision- should he call the police? Utterly unobtrusive, the narrative reveals not only the tragic story of a family but also a pseudo-democratic society where people fall through the cracks. With only a few lines and muted colours the rotoscoped images that linger in the memory open an unusual perspective on America.

The chronicle of an oral cavity: from inside, wildly traced, literally, with the tip of the tongue. An X-ray of the body decaying over time, fascinated by the amalgam of food, tongue, throat and stomach. Nostalgic feelings for what was lost and demands to be recovered by an obsession with perfection, which, in fact, leads to further destruction. This film damages the enamel of the conscious mind and provokes a subconscious avulsion, painful as the sound of a dental drill.
