Made over six years in the hotels of six different countries, the “Hotel Diaries” chart the “War on Terror” era of Bush and Blair through a series of video recordings that relate personal experiences to the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq and Israel/Palestine. In these works, which play upon chance and coincidence, the hotel room is employed as a “found” film set, where the architecture, furnishing and decoration become the means by which my own small adventures are metaphorically linked to major world events.

Drawing For Better Dreams May Odeh, Dia' Azzeh

What do children dream of at night? In Palestine it’s tanks, bombs, soldiers with guns, burning houses, and people who are forced to flee. Painting their dreams and turning them into a film helped the 9- to 12-year-old kids from Gaza and Hebron.

History is created by the person who tells it. And there are many different ways of telling it. Biases shift, details are left out or emphasised. In Hebron, a city in West Jordan divided into zones and inhabited by both Israelis and Palestinians, convictions about history and truth intersect with and are superimposed upon each other. The film collects the different narratives, told by Israeli and Palestinian city guides.
