In the small Sicilian town Siculiana, a statue of a black Jesus has been venerated for centuries. In May, the crucifix is carried on the shoulders of the devotees in a procession through the crowded streets. The Siculianesi, who have always been a population of emigrants, have to deal with the exodus of young people and therefore with the lack of workforce. One possible answer to the town’s problems could be the migrants: their willingness to undertake any honest work could revive the town’s fate. But their status as asylum seekers makes it impossible for them to work. Siculianesi and migrants remain divided, not speaking with each other out of fear, but also because the Italian government has not attempted to create a fruitful dialogue between the two different faces of the same poverty.
The drowsy stagnancy of Siculiana is stirred up by the arrival of Edward from Ghana. Immediately fascinated by the figure of the black Jesus, Edward decides to challenge the indifference and fear of the Siculianesi and asks them to participate as a carrier of the crucifix.
His very personal battle is the central column of the film, a dramaturgical trunk from which different characters and stories branch out and intertwine, creating a multi-layered portrayal of a divided community.

While working on her first documentary film, director Areum meets a progressive party activist and chef, Seongman, and gets married. After getting married, she takes Seongman with her to study in France, something she has been long preparing to do. In France, the only thing Seongman can do is housework. Not being able to read or speak the language leaves Seongman in depression, whilst Areum, the one responsible for their financial and administrative duties, gets pregnant. In order to help Seongman get over his depression, Areum suggests they start running “Oegil Restaurant” – a project to cook and serve a limited number of guests on specific days. But after the birth of their baby, Areum starts concentrating on her studies and filmmaking, leaving Seongman alone in parenting. This leads to frequent aggressive fights and to Seongman declaring a strike. Will Areum be able to juggle both her marriage and her film?

What does it mean to be safe in school in the United States? Safe from what, and from whom? Bulletproof poses and complicates these questions through a provocative exploration of fear and American violence.
Bulletproof explores the complexities of violence in schools by looking at the strategies employed to prevent it. The film observes the longstanding rituals that take place in and around American schools: homecoming parades, basketball practice, morning announcements, and math class. Unfolding alongside these scenes is a collection of newer traditions: lockdown drills, teacher firearms training, metal detector screenings, and school safety trade shows. Bulletproof asks what these rituals reflect back at us, looking beyond immediate causes and responses to mass shootings in a cinematic meditation on the array of forces that shape the culture of violence in the United States.

Loneliness. A feeling that takes hold of more and more people. In a world in which professional flexibility, growing self-centeredness and the loss of social liabilities have become increasingly common, this diffuse feeling seems to have settled. Berlin is symptomatic of this: in the same place at the same time, the documentary tells stories of people in different realities. They all share the experience of loneliness. The capital itself becomes a symbol, the backdrop for observations of being alone in society.

This intimate story chronicles the relationship between musicians Faith and Branko over a period of seven years. In 2011, Faith travels from England to Serbia to learn gypsy accordion. She meets Roma violinist Branko and despite language barriers, they fall in love through music. Captivated by their musical chemistry, they marry and take their duo abroad. As much as Faith is free-spirited and privileged, Branko is untraveled and attached to his family, but they each believe that the other will better their lives. The relationship is tested by the realisation of their differences and that music may be all they have in common.

Les Blanches Terres, literally The White Fields, is a remote locality in Lorraine, a region of Eastern France. Its charm escapes those who pass through.
Michelle, the director’s grandmother, has always lived there and is firmly established. A widow for twenty years, she fights isolation through nearly daily contact with her cousins, friends, and few neighbours.
Concerned about preserving and passing on the memory of the Blanches Terres, Michelle has filled dozens of photo albums throughout her life. But for now, she is lucidly observing the looming disappearance of all traces of these “tiny lives” in Les Blanches Terres.
The director, who is also a photographer, asks Michelle and “the cousins” to be part of her new photographic work. What image should they give of themselves at 80 or more years old? What can be kept as a record of what is being erased? Through their portraits, the film tells of a world that has become almost invisible to us.
